Del Interview Part 1 (Video)

Published on October 11, 2009, by Phalary42

The MashUp.Net caught up with Del after his show and in Part 1 of this interview we spoke on his new album, Parallel Uni-Verses, the project with Tame 1, if there’s going to be a new Heiro and Gorillaz album, why did he switch up his style, the new breed of CA hip hop, his bay upbringing and how it influenced him, and writing for Ice Cube. Part 2 is coming tomorrow…

Queen’s emcee, Prophit, come’s correct with his official album. It took me forever and a day to listen to it but I wish I hadn’t because it has my neck breaking. Fun fact: A 16 year old named Gabe Wax from Brooklyn produced 75% of this album. Don’t make the same mistake and download it now!

For Whom The Bell Tolls…

Bells

So here’s the deal: Obviously I haven’t been blogging here on MTR in awhile, and that’s due in part to [1] Living a regular life, just like yourselves. From dealing with the day-to-day duties of life, to putting in work at Fitted. It’s a lot more difficult than I thought, to be able to juggle between all this and staying up on the blog tip. [2] As of 2 weeks ago, I’ve unofficially officially (what an oxymoron) joined the 2dopeboyz (that’s eight 2’s for you mufuckas) team, granted, I’m sitting in the backseat of that Cadillac. Every weekend, you can catch MTR’s own Phalary and myself holding it down for Shake & Meka. That’s not to say that I’m completely ignoring the everyday going-ons here at MTR, it just means that posts will be updated on a slower basis. I do have a bunch of interviews bubbling that I’ve been putting together, and some others that you’ll be able to catch on my mellow-my-man Hallway Jay & Mike Waxx’s infamous illRoots. In a nutshell, I guess I’m a freelancer now. Feels great to be honest, less stress. See y’all around! Keep those RSS feeds running!

Pac Div on MTV’s Artist You Need To Know

Published on September 23, 2009, by Phalary42

I love Mexican food too! Ha!

Check out Like, Mibbs, and BeYoung’s “The 5″ interview to witness true love for gaming… and for sports (Pac Div refers to Pacific Division sports teams, in case I was not alone).

Pac Div, who’ve opened for Nas and recently released Church League Champions, offer a good old underdog story: rising from church league basketball to the NBA. (And a stint on as a junior college baller). Pac Div’s Interests do go beyond sports too — they’re into Eckhart Tolle and Eat, Pray, Love on the lit tip and Radiohead and Flock of Seagulls on the iPod.

Exile: The Soul Provider

Published on September 22, 2009, by Phalary42

Side note: This is by far one of my favorite interviews that I’ve done. Props to: Oh Dang!

As a producer in hip-hop, it’s important to work with a vocalist who can compliment your style. Born in San Diego, Exile is living proof that there are unlimited variations to the new west coast sound. Exile’s first venture into the professional realm of hip-hop was with Aloe Blacc as part of the duo Emanon. It was the 2007 masterpiece, Below the Heavens with So Cal emcee Blu, that solidified his status as a groundbreaking producer. He invites listeners to his musical landscape with relaxing yet explosive composition. The honesty and integrity that is conveyed through Exile’s drums and bass lines further explains why Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep and others have enlisted him for his loops that are soulful, mesmerizing and charming all at once.

In person, Exile is quite the character. He’s witty, funny, smart, real and humble. I introduced myself and explained how Below the Heavens reminded me of Illmatic. He asked me if I was high. I laughed. But Blu explained how I felt best on his and Exile’s “So(ul) Amazin’”: “Feeling fresh, yes. While Ex queue the keys, I’m a ease through your soul like you’re blowing trees. Best believe the soul provider.”

Oh Dang! sat down with the beatsmith and talked with him about his latest release Radio; how he met Blu, his upcoming projects for 2009 and his rap album. (Yes, you read that right, a rap album.)
